The 21st century student

The zeitgeist of an era is reflected in the structure and organisation of learning at the time. Until the 90’s, our education systems have been instructivist and results-oriented in nature to prepare students for employment in the world of science and technology.

Fast forward 20 years (or 200 in Internet years) and it is a vastly different world we live in thanks to the spread of the Internet. We are witnessing a tectonic shift in the sphere of education, where utilitarian and formal classroom learning is giving way to more connectivist and informal (as well as non-formal) learning modes. The video below illustrates the learning journey and strategies of the 21st century student.
