Schooling vs. learning

June 3, 2011

Don’t let Peter Thiel’s  higher education bubble theory rain on your MBA parade. Reread your statement of motivation; besides career advancement, didn’t you also mention wanting to broaden your horizons and develop into a well-rounded individual? That is the difference between schooling (the subject of Thiel’s argument) and authentic learning. This nuance may seem unimportant to some, but being able to appreciate it can help one cultivate the correct mindset in any study programme for a positive rather than onerous learning experience.

To all the genuine learners out there: good on you, and keep pushing!
