What great teachers do differently

February 13, 2012

Todd Whitaker is a Professor of Educational Leadership at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. In the video below, he talks about the ill effects of punishment, which leaves students feeling “mad” and “vengeful”. Would be interesting to hear his take on what happens when teachers ignore misbehaviour.

Nice comment. We all have things in life which leave us ‘angry’ and ‘vengeful’, you know – missing out on a job interview, failing a subject, etc. But the point of life is that we learn to deal with it and move on. Sidestepping such issues in school will simply produce school-leavers incapable of adult interaction.
